MIKE CASSAM
Mike has 23 years of experience in the entertainment industry, meaning he’s either way older than he lets on or he started entertaining at a really early age; lets go with option two.
Mike was born and raised in the small town of Dover in the South of England. After Mike’s parents noticed that he was mesmerized in his crib by music at 18 months old, they decided to buy him a small Casio keyboard. By age 3, Mike had become quite proficient at reciting nursery rhymes that he heard on the gramophone (yikes, maybe we should have gone with option one). Perhaps his greatest accomplishment came when, at age 5, he mastered the Sesame Street theme song; he was obviously destined for greatness, following in the footsteps of Mozart and Beethoven. Maybe not but since then, there has not been a time in Mike’s life where he has not been involved in music, whether playing, recording, mixing or booking.
Mike started taking piano lessons at age 5 and by age 8, had won a silver medal with the Royal School of Music Examination Board for achieving the second highest score in the country for any age on any instrument. During this time, he also started teaching himself guitar, sax, clarinet, and upright bass.
After playing his first live public show at 15, Mike performed in venues all over the UK for the next 4 years. At age 19, after graduating with associate degrees in Law and Sociology, Mike decided he needed to make a move from the small town and do something crazy. It was then that he decided to pack up his belongings, buy a plane ticket and fly to Philadelphia. The entire thing was completely unplanned and outright ridiculous. Mike didn’t know anyone, didn’t have any accommodation lined up, didn’t have a job, a cell phone, or even a map, and to make it worse, he had very little money.
Looking back on it, Mike now realizes that he was crazy but through a lot of hard work, networking and putting himself out there, Mike started making a name for himself in the Philly music scene. It wasn’t long before “English Mike” had become a well-known name among Philly musicians, club owners, agents and managers and over the next few years, Mike toured up and down the east coast, playing with numerous successful bands and organizing shows from Vermont to Key West in every conceivable venue, from clubs and casinos to international ballrooms and football stadiums for half time shows.
In 2010, Mike decided that he needed to move away from the club scene and focus on weddings and private events, which is when he, along with several other Philly musicians decided to form what has now become one of the most requested after and successful wedding bands in the North East. This brought him to ECE.
In ECE, Mike found a way to combine his passion for music with his passion for helping people. Having personally played thousands of events and over 250 weddings, Mike brings an unmatched level of knowledge to the table from a performance perspective, which, when combined with his expertise of everything that goes on behind the scenes, allows him to offer advice and guidance that is simply invaluable when organizing your wedding or event entertainment. Mike’s years of experience and attention to detail will not only help make your event a complete success, but it will make it a completely stress-free and fun experience.
Mike currently lives in Delaware with his wife, Christina, their two daughters, Lily and Everly, and their Shih Tzu, Milton (The Boss.) Mike loves to fish, travel with his family, ride motorcycles and collect guitars. He’s also a little too passionate about cooking and eating.
